# Structy vs AlgoPath: is Structy worth it

Short answer. Structy teaches each topic through a sequence of problems, with an animated explanation and a code walkthrough for every one. AlgoPath makes you build the algorithm itself, then use it in a working system. If you want to be walked through problem by problem, Structy is good at it. If walkthroughs no longer stick, start here.

## Side by side

| | Structy | AlgoPath |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The unit of work | A problem inside a topic | One algorithm |
| What you produce | A solution to that problem | The algorithm, then a system that uses it |
| Explanations | An animated explanation and a code walkthrough per problem | Written theory, then a hint ladder that nudges instead of answering |
| Community | A Discord server for members | None yet |
| Free part | You can start the course free | The first 33 steps |
| Price | $49 a month or $129 a year | One payment, no renewal |

## Where Structy is better

The animations. A pointer moving across an array is easier to follow drawn than described.

The walkthroughs are language specific. You see the solution written in the language you will interview in.

A problem comes with its variants, so you drill one idea several times in a row.

There is a community. AlgoPath has no Discord.

## Is Structy worth it

Start with the free part. If the animations make ideas click for you, $129 for a year is a fair price for the rest.

Pay monthly only if your interview is close. Three months at $49 already costs more than the year.

It is a weaker buy if you can follow every walkthrough and still cannot write the code alone. A walkthrough is still someone else writing it.

## Where AlgoPath is better

Every step hands you a file with a signature, a TODO and the tests. You write the body. The tests stay red until it works.

Then the same function goes into a small production case: a rate limiter, an LRU cache, a git bisect. You see the algorithm doing a job.

A trainer drills the part interviews test first. You read an unlabelled problem and name one of the [52 patterns](/patterns) before you write a line. Structy groups problems by topic, so the topic tells you the pattern before you have to find it.

## Using both

Watch the Structy animation for a topic you find hard to picture. Then close it and build the algorithm here from the TODO. The animation gives you the picture, and the tests tell you whether you can produce the code.

## Verdict

- You learn best from animations and want a community: Structy.
- You follow walkthroughs fine and freeze on a blank file: AlgoPath.
- You want one curated list with videos: [AlgoExpert](/algopath-vs-algoexpert).
- A pattern flowchart with a code template for each pattern: [AlgoMonster](/algopath-vs-algomonster).

## Try it

The [placement test](/placement) is 15 questions and needs no account. The first 33 steps are free, [counting with a hash map](/steps/hashing-map-set-frequency) and [the sliding window that changes size](/steps/sliding-window-variable) among them. [Full access](/pricing) is one payment, with no renewal.
